Report
Introduction:
A one day
International Conference on Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental
Applications (IC-NEEA-2023) was organized by Department of Chemistry on 21st
March 2023. The international conference was arranged on hybrid mode (Online +
Offline). The conference brought together leading researchers, scientists, academicians,
and practitioners from around the world to share and exchange their research
findings, ideas, and experiences in the field of nanomaterials for energy and
environmental applications. This report provides an overview of the conference,
including the Inauguration, key themes, presentations, and discussions.
Inauguration
The conference
was inaugurated by honorable Prof. P. S. Patil, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Shivaji
University, Kolhapur. He enlightened the need of research in day today life and
encouraged students to do their career in research. Dr. R. V. Shejwal, Joint
Secretary (Administration), Shree Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur
& Principal of our college, was a president of inaugural function. All
other faculty members of college were present for inaugural function of
conference.
Key Themes
The conference
covered a wide range of themes related to the use of nanomaterials for energy
and environmental applications. Some of the key themes that were explored
during the conference include:
Nanomaterials for
Energy Conversion and Energy Storage: This theme explored the use of
nanomaterials in energy conversion technologies, such as solar cells, fuel
cells, and thermoelectric devices. This theme also focused on the use of
nanomaterials in energy storage technologies, such as batteries and
supercapacitors. The presentations highlighted the potential of nanomaterials
to improve the energy density, cycle life, and safety of these technologies and
to improve the efficiency and performance of these technologies.
Nanomaterials for
Environmental Remediation: This theme explored the use of nanomaterials in
environmental remediation applications, such as water purification, air
pollution control, and soil remediation. The presentations highlighted the
potential of nanomaterials to remove pollutants and contaminants from the
environment in a more efficient and cost-effective manner.
Nanomaterials for
Sustainable Development through catalysis: This theme focused on the use of
nanomaterials to promote sustainable development, such as in the areas of
renewable energy, energy efficiency, and waste reduction through catalytic use
of Nanomaterials.
Presentations and Discussions
The conference featured
a wide range of presentations from leading researchers and scientists in the
field of nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications. The
presentations covered a range of topics related to the key themes of the
conference. Some of the notable presentations include:
"Hybrid
Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications" by Dr. Santosh S.
Patil from the FEMTO-ST Institute, Science and Technology, Besancon France. The
presentation focused on the use of nanomaterials in improving the efficiency
and performance of solar cells. In this talk, he has discussed about materials
engineering approaches for hybrid nanostructures (BiVO4, TiO2 and WO3), glass
making, electrode fabrication and then fine-tuning electrical, optical, and
catalytic properties of these nanomaterials for specific applications. Various
synthesis strategies for inorganic hybrid nanostructures also highlighted.
"Solar Light
Responsive Nanomaterials for A Sustainable and Clean Environment" by Dr. Thillai
Sivakumar Natarajan from the Environmental Science Laboratory, CSIR-Central
Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The
presentation highlighted journey in developing various types of solar light
responsive nanomaterials for the degradation of environmental pollutants.
"Two
Dimensional Nanomaterials for Advanced Catalysis" by Dr. Srinivaas
Masimukku from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. The presentation
explored the use of nanomaterials in removing pollutants and contaminants from
water in a more efficient and cost-effective manner through photocatalysis
based on 2D materials, including metal oxide or chalcogenide nanosheets,
graphene or graphene oxide and carbon nitride.
“Nanotechnology
and Nanomedicine for Biomedical Applications” by Naresh Kuthala, Department of
Biosciences, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway. The presented highlited use of the
gold nanostructures like AuNRs, Au-nanoshells, Au-nanocages and nanohexapods to
treat cancer cells and malignant tumors in NIR biological window.
The each presentation
was followed by discussions and question answering between speaker and
participants, which provided an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and
experiences. There was poster presentation by the paricipants covered a range
of topics related to nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications.
Valedictory Function
In a valedictory
function, Dr. Vilas Karjinni, Executive Director, KIT’s College of Engineering
Kolhapur, addressed gathering and highlighted research ethics and importance of
research in human life.
Conclusion
The International
Conference on Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications provided
an excellent platform for researchers, scientists, and practitioners to share
and exchange their research findings, ideas, and experiences in the field of
nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications. The conference
highlighted the potential of nanomaterials to contribute to the development of
sustainable energy and environmental solutions. The conference also identified
several key challenges and opportunities for future research and development in
this field.
