Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Satara (LBSCS) is managed by Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur (SSVSK) and is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolahpur. SSVSK is the second largest education institute in Maharashtra state. The college was found in 1967 and is christened after the late Prime Minister Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri to commemorate his memories and his concern for Jawan and Kisaan and for the masses, and their upliftment. It was unveiled at the auspicious hands of Smt. Lalitadevi Shastri in 1967.
With the vision to emerge as a premier institute imparting knowledge and skills and inculcating human values at its core for the everlasting benefit of the global society, the college has been progressing academically since its establishment and has secured ‘A’grade in the NAAC accreditation with CGPA 3.15 in its 3rd Cycle of Assessmentin 2018. The college offers M. Phil program in Hindi and Sanskrit andhas the University Recognition for laboratories in Chemistry and Zoology for M. Phil. and Ph. D. research. The college offers 8 PG (English, Hindi, Marathi, Economics, Chemistry, Zoology, Geography and Advanced Accountancy) programmes and 17 UG (English, Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Commerce, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science) programmes. Besides, the college runs B. A., B. Com., M. A., M. Com. Courses under Distance Education Center, Shivaji University and has YCMOU center at its premises.
The college carries several extension activities in nearby community through its units of National Social Service, National Cadet Core, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Women Empowerment Cell, and Kaas Interpretation Center. The college has signed 22 Memorandum of Understanding with several national and international institutes and NGOs. The college has DBT, DST-FIST and Community College Status from Indian Government and has number of faculties with research potential who have published more than 100 research papers in UGC care listed journals.
