Paper I

Syllabus-Theory         (12 Periods )

Unit I Essence Sticks

Study of constituents

·         Bamboo sticks 

·         Paste 

·         Adhesive 

·         Perfume ingredients  powder of mixed ground ingredients, though more commonly is a solvent of perfumes and/or essential oils.

·         Halmaddi resin drawn from the Ailanthus triphysa tree

·         Ingradients used -star anise; sandalwood, aloeswood, cedar wood, cassia, frankincense, myrrh, and borneol;  ,  turmeric, vetiver, ginger, costus root, valerian, Indian spikenard; and clove.

Liquid Phenyl

·         Preparation of liquid phenys, Study of  Ingredients:Ingredients Pine Oil – 68 % ,Emulsifier   OP-95  – 30 %, Preventol KMX – 2 %

·         Study of Cold process used for preparation of  phenyl

Liquid Soaps

·         History. Types such as gel, liquids, pacs, powder, and tablets, Common ingradients, Brands, Uses

Unit II  Hair Stying gels

·         History, Constituents of Hair gels,Study of  main functional components of hair gel, Cationic polymers.

·         Copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone, methacrylamide, and N-vinylimidazole

Shampoo.

·         Surfactantsodium lauryl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate

·         Co-surfactant, mostly cocamidopropyl

·         Essential ingredients include salt (sodium chloride), betaine in water  preservative and fragrance

Unit III  Perfumes

·         Raw materials in Perfumery

·         History of Perfumes

·         Indian and Global Perfumery Trends

·         Analytical Chemistry and Separation Techniques relating to Perfumery

Instrumental Analysis -GC,MS, HPLC, HPTLC

Unit IV Fundamental and applied Chemistry

·         Introduction to basic thermodynamics

·         Chemistry of Surfactants

·         Theory of emulsions

·         Macromolecular Chemistry

·         Fragnance selection, stability and Testing

·         Environmental safety and industrial network

·         Legislation and regulations for perfumes and cosmetics

·         Safety testing and toxicology

Paper II   Practical                                        ( 24  Periods )

Preparation of Essence sticks, Phenyl, liquid soap, Candle, Hair oil, and perfume.
